Office 2013 has gone on sale and already I’ve seen posts online from people asking about the SQL Server Upsizing wizard not found in the tool.

It’s no longer available

The wizard was a causality in Access 2013 and frankly I say good riddance. I for one thought it was barely usable when it worked, since more often than not we were using a version of SQL Server that the wizard could not understand.

Use SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA)

A much better tool, (and now your only choice with Access 2013), is to use SSMA to create your SQL Server database. We use it at our firm and we enjoy the many features it provides:

— Ability to change settings and customize the tool to our preferences

— Allow us to save the migration package and run it as many times as we wish. (We use it to upload new versions of data up the release of a SQL version, a post on this technique is coming soon)

— Works with all versions of SQL Server and Access
