We created a mobile offshore pipe tracking software application to record measurements and quality statistics on site.
This pipelining company is hired by international governments and companies to lay pipes at the bottom of the ocean floor. Pipes are inspected on the beach before being loaded onto a barge and shipped out to the open ocean for construction.
Before using our custom software, our client inefficiently recorded all data with pen and paper. Even after loading the barge, the operation was put on hold for another 1-2 hours until all data was entered into an Access database, printed and sent to the barge Captain before they could cast off and begin the underwater pipelining.

Using rugged mobile technology integrated with an MSDE database on a laptop, quality assurance inspectors can now quickly inspect pipes and automatically record inspection results. They now have more time to inspect other aspects of the pipes and provide clients with more comprehensive reports on a daily basis. Pipe vendors can now evaluate many projects at one time to determine the defects per thousand at least once a year.
